Progressive Dinner Christmas Tradition

Last night was my favorite holiday party of the year, our Lang family progressive dinner. For those of you who don’t know what a progressive dinner is, it is a dinner party where you ‘progress’ from house to house after each course! We had three houses this year; appetizers (and drinks), entree (and drinks), and dessert (and drinks and games). We are lucky that a large majority of us cousins live walking distance (or a short drive) away from each other which makes this easy and fun every single year.

This year, Alec and I were teamed up with my brother and sister in law, Blake & Tiffany, and our cousins, Chelsea & Tyler, for the appetizer house. We made cranberry-rosemary moscow mules, shrimp wontons, and mini Asian salads. I was super proud of us this year and would say we definitely had some crowd pleasers!! (If you ever host an appetizer house during a progressive dinner, I would say simple is key! It’s too much pressure to try to prep everything and still have it fresh for when people arrive so we played our cards right this year doing mini bites that were simple and delicious). Anyways, the next house was our cousins Taryn & Joe who were teamed up with our cousins Tim & Shannon and Luke & Chelsea. Now, Joe is the chef of the fam so I think we have been looking forward to his entree at progressive since the last time he cooked for us all back in July. They made a crazy delicious pork dish with broccoli, potatoes, and a chop chop salad. I will say that what made their dinner was the sauce!! Sauce makes me happy and they totally nailed it. Last stop was at our cousin’s Casey & Andrea’s house who teamed up with my brother and sister in law, Drew & Morgan where we had creme brûlée!! Al and I’s absolute fave!! If you watched my snapchat, you also saw that we played a game called Watch Ya’ Mouth which was HILARIOUS. My snap will be up for a couple more hours so if you haven’t seen it yet, go find me (karlieragan). I know it will convince you that you need this game at your next get together.

Christmas traditions are one of the best parts about the holidays and starting new ones is always so much fun! Progressive dinner is the perfect addition to your festivities. Here’s some photos (iPhone shots btw if it isn’t obvious! hahaha) of our fun-filled night! You can also shop the holiday look I wore below! I hope your guys’ December is going wonderfully!
